R A Jones left the beautiful green space of Priory Park to the people of Southend in 1917.
The park has recently become top priority in residents' minds after it was saved from controversial council road development proposals following a YA campaign supported by more than 6,000 residents.
Peter Walker, chairman of the Priory Park Preservation Society, said the campaign to protect the park had now gathered more support.
He added: "We have had 10,000 copies of our first newsletter printed, but it looks like we will have to print more. We must not allow his legacy to be rubbished by the council."
