THERE have been a few suggestions again recently to create a one-way system around Priory Park.

The traffic light junction at Victoria Avenue, Fairfax Drive and Priory Crescent (south) is already overloaded. To divert westbound Eastern Avenue traffic through this junction, even with improvements, would be a disaster.

Then the majority of this traffic would have to travel northwards along the already overloaded Victoria Avenue. A number of large one-way systems have been tried and found not to work because they make people travel additional distances, creating more congestion.

Many councils have scrapped large one-way systems. The Rayleigh one was drastically reduced and there are still calls for the last bit of one-way in the High Street to be made two-way.
