Blingers keep up fight to stop road

CAMPAIGNERS have vowed to step up their fight against a road witening scheme with a series of events.

The Government still hasn't decided whether to go ahead with the scheme at Priory Crescent, which opponents at Camp Bling see as encouraging.

They are hoping to scupper the project by driving up its cost by million by staying put at the park. To bolster support for their campaign, Camp Blingers are organising various events.

Campaigner Shaun Qureshi said: "Five years on and we can still win. To keep the campaign moving a number of activities have been planned."

Tomorrow campaigners will have a picnic in Priory Park from 6pm to celebrate the anniversary of the park's formal opening in 1920.

On Saturday there will be an energy grounding ceremony at 2pm to call on spirits of the site to protect it.

Campaigners will meet again at the Golden Lion in Victoria Avenue, Southend, on Wednesday to give people an update of how things are going.
