Green talks at Camp Bling

A SERIES of free talks on environmental issues is to be staged in a very appropriate setting in Southend — the Camp Bling anti-roads protest camp.

The first speaker in the series will be environmental website editor and camp resident Adrian Harris, who will launch the series on World Environment Day, next Monday.

He will introduce some of the ideas behind the environmental movement in the opening talk.

The following Monday, peace activist and Green Party official Irene Willis will pose the question: "What do we do about Trident?"

Then, on Tuesday, June 27, a speaker from Friends of the Earth will speak on the subject of climate change.

Future events at the unofficial campsite, off Priory Crescent, are expected to include workshops about domestic chemicals and growing your own food.

Camp Bling resident Ant Bailey said: "Although we are a single-issue campaign, we're delighted to host speakers exploring the wider context."

All talks start at 7.30pm and are expected to last about 90 minutes.

For more information about the talks, call Adrian Harris on [mobile number].
